We at Flourish know that finding the perfect venue can be a difficult decision, but we want to help make that easier for you. We have decided to gather some of our favorite local wedding venues and share them with you! First up, we’re travelling to Lancaster, SC – to the one and only, The Ivy Place.
Originally built in the 1850s, the house was owned by Adam Ivy – it is rumored that he purchased the house with piece of gold, which he earned from a local South Carolina gold mine. Ivy raised his family there until he sold the farm to Dr. James D. Nisbet.
Nisbet was the one who turned the land into a working dairy farm in the 1920s and he began to renovate the house and built most of the barns that are still on the land today. Once Nisbet and his wife passed away, the land sat vacant for several years before it was bought by a distant family member to Nisbet, Genie Graham and her husband Terry, in 1978.
Since 1978, Genie and Terry have raised their family, held family weddings and receptions, and opened their doors and farm to others. Complete with open spaces, antique barns, a historic farm house, immense gardens, and a farm – The Ivy Place is so much more than a venue.
In the beginning of their wedding adventure, The Ivy Place was home to three weddings – one of which was their daughters. Since then, they have hosted well over 100 weddings and have become a high demand venue. With more than 5 ceremony spots, the possibilities are vast! The main cocktail area is covered with twinkling lights to ensure that the dance party doesn’t have to end when the sun goes down! Genie also sprays the ceremony areas with her ‘Magic Potion’ before every wedding – to keep the bugs away and your guest happy! Overall, the owners go above and beyond to make your wedding dreams come true.
An important thing to know is that they limit themselves to 25 weddings a year, so it is encouraged to book this venue earlier rather than later.
Like I said before, The Ivy Place is more than just a wedding venue. The farm on the property is open for anyone to visit and is loaded with activities. The berry farm is open for guests to come and pick their own berries during the summer months, they also offer vegetables and my personal favorite, muscadines! They have bees partner with Beeyond Bees and hope to soon and sell their honey. And, as if they already didn’t offer enough, they hold farm camps for kids aged 6-11, where they learn all about what goes into taking care of a farm. The farm is scheduled to open in April of 2021.

Genie also offers garden design for your home – whether you need help all around or just help deciding which flowers to plant and when – she’s your gal! Having a passion for gardening has also led the Graham family to partner with Katawba Valley Land Trust in order to help preserve undeveloped North Carolina land – so far they have helped conserve over 1000 acres and 3.7 miles of river front.
We hope that if you visit The Ivy Place, you’ll fall in love just as much as we did. If you have any questions about the venue, please reach out to the Grahams and they will be more than happy to assist you!
