Flourish: Our Story

Flourish did not grow overnight.  It took several years of long days (and nights), hours researching everything from how to become a wedding planner to how to run a business, venue visits, freelance jobs, meetings and networking, paid education and free courses, weddings and events, building a team, one rebranding, and so much more to get to where we are today.

And let us just say, Flourish is, well….flourishing. 

The owner of Flourish Wedding Design, Jennifer Duncan, has known since she was an 8 year old flower girl in her Aunt Beth’s wedding that she has a special passion for the wedding industry. She spent years planning other peoples’ weddings in her head and eventually started planning her friends’ weddings for them. Before she knew it she had been working in the event industry for more than 10 years and realized that weddings will have her heart forever. 

In 2017, Jennifer started ‘Celebrate Event Planning’ after helping several of her close friends plan their own weddings. Jennifer continued to build the business until her vision for it changed from event planning to wedding design and she began the arduous journey to becoming Flourish Wedding Design. During the rebranding process, Jennifer flipped through a thesaurus looking up different words for ‘lush’ and ‘thrive’ and she kept coming back to ‘flourish’ – she knew it was perfect because she wants her clients’ love, future, and wedding to flourish and grow into something beautiful. It is also important that the business does its part to help the environment to flourish. 

Today, Flourish Wedding Design specializes in eco-friendly wedding planning and sustainable floral design. And if you’re thinking that you can only have an outdoor bohemian themed eco-friendly wedding, we’re here to tell you that in this case, you can have your cake and eat it too! 

Our job is to make your wedding dreams come true, while also keeping sustainability at the forefront of our minds. We know we can’t do it alone, which is why we work with eco-friendly venues and vendors to make sure that every option is considered and aspect is covered.

While we keep sustainability at the forefront of our mind during your wedding planning process, we also have some work going on behind the scenes… 

One of the many things that Flourish offers for our couples is sustainable floral design. We go above and beyond traditional floral practices to bring you stunningly sustainable bridal bouquets, centerpieces, altar decor, and really anything we can imagine together.  Our sustainable practices include: sourcing flowers locally whenever possible, composting all organic material when designing, foam free designs (floral foam is toxic to both humans & our environment), reducing waste, donating arrangements after events, donating to charity and constantly coming up with new ideas, designs and practices.

We have recently partnered with Petals for Hope, a non-profit that takes any floral decor from your event, brings it back to one of their warehouses, recreates centerpieces, and then they deliver them to homeless shelters, nursing homes, and safe houses. Flourish also makes an annual donation to 1% For The Planet. Our donation to 1% For The Planet goes to different non-profit environmental charities to help them plant trees, clean up our oceans, save the polar bears, combat greenhouse gases, and so much more.

2020 was a rough year for Flourish, as we are sure it was for many other wedding professionals, but we came back, bigger and better than ever. We have three main goals for this year, and even though it is only February, we have already accomplished one of them! 

Our first goal for 2021 was to expand the team to include more planners and floral designers. We are happy to say that we now have three additional team members; a lead planner, a wedding assistant, and one amazing head of operations/floral designer. 

Our other goals for this year are to improve our Client Experience by finding a way to surprise and delight each and every one of our clients and to develop and nurture relationships with other amazing local wedding professionals in our area. 

2021 is all about Growth – we are more than excited to get back to what we do best, planning incredible wedding experiences for our awesome couples!
